There’s another 6TB HDD player in the mix, as Seagate announced its latest enterprise-class hard drive, the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v.4, and the company claims that it can beat the competition’s performance by 25%.

Regardless, 6TB is incredible density for a single HDD, and Seagate’s version features enterprise-class reliability and Self-Encrypting Drives (SED) with Instant Secure Erase for security. The 7200rpm drives offer either a 12Gbps SAS interface or a SATA 6Gbps interface, and Seagate says that they’re ideal for data centers that are supporting cloud solutions, as well as surveillance applications and enterprise backup and restore.

“Unstructured data growth is doubling exponentially and will propel the digital universe to reach 16 Zettabytes of data by as early as 2017. This will cause cloud service providers to look for innovative ways to store more within an existing footprint while lowering operational costs,” said Scott Horn, Seagate vice president of marketing. “Seagate is poised to address this challenge by offering the fastest 6TB enterprise capacity HDD based on our proven, reliable platform meeting this never-ending demand in both private and public cloud data centers.”

The Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v.4 is now shipping, and it comes in capacities of 6TB, 5TB, 4TB, and 2TB. Seagate is planning to use the drives in its business and branded storage offerings soon, as well.
